My Thoughts – 4*
Such a lovely, heartwarming book. It made me smile lots!
This story has all you want and need in a modern romantic novel.
A picture-perfect setting, a man and a woman. And a couple of pet dogs.
I imagined I was there in the small English seaside town of White Cliff Bay.
I could see the red and white lighthouse. I wanted to live there.
Darcy has moved to the town to start afresh. She always feels like she has let her parents down. She is a bit of a walking disaster when it comes to jobs, and life in general.
She is starting a new job in a couple of weeks, so has a week or so to get settled in the area. She used to visit the town when she was a child as her Aunt Ginny used to live there.
She meets Riley when she gets on to the rocks at the lighthouse where he lives.
They get off to a bad start, but are really drawn to each other.
The story follows the pair, and some of the townfolk, in their quest to save the lighthouse.
They have a funday to raise awareness and money for the campaign.
Some parts of this day made me giggle, especially the part at the cake stall when Darcy encountered Anne and Geri. This had me laughing out loud.
I have relatives in the US, so these quotes from the book made me giggle when Darcy was getting Riley to try out some English foods:-
“’You might want to try your next bite with some brown sauce’. ‘What’s brown sauce?’ ‘But what flavour is it?’ ‘It’s just brown.’ ‘Brown flavoured?’ ‘Yes, that’s right’ “
“‘OK, now for a crisp butty’……‘No way. I draw the line at that’ “
“‘Hobnobs and spotted dick, what kind of weird ass country have I moved too?’ “
This is the first book I’ve read by Holly Martin. I know this is the 3rd in the White Cliff Bay books, but it didn’t make any difference to me. It can be definitely read as a stand-alone book.
