My Review – 5 stars

The first in the Detective Ruby Preston series.

It’s great to get a new character, and I look forward to getting to know Ruby and her team in subsequent books.

Great writing and a fab plot.

If this girl called Lucy knocked on your door you definitely don’t want to answer it. She seriously creeped me out. And after seeing some of the author’s Twitter GIFs I had the added terror of that image of a freaky Victorian girl etched into my brain!!

I don’t want to give anything away here, but Lucy’s character was really brutal. Some of the goings on with her chilled me to the bone.

I enjoyed the interaction with the Crosby family, and feel there will be more in the future. And we met Ruby’s mum Joy too.

The characters had really good depth, delving in to their pasts. And I never guessed anything along the way, took me by surprise every step of the way.

I can’t wait to see what Ruby Preston gets up to next time. Caroline Mitchell creates some seriously dark and scary stuff *runs away shrieking*

I love the cover.

Thanks to the publishers, Bookouture, and NetGalley for the copy in return for an honest review.
