Blog Tour 28th January 2019

Today it’s my stop on the blog tour for ‘What Happens in France’ by Carol Wyer. I’m delighted to be part of it. Thanks to Ellie Pilcher at Canelo for inviting me to take part.

My Thoughts – So funny and entertaining!

Bryony has been looking for her sister, Hannah, for many years. She even set up a blog trying to find her. Hannah had left home when Bryony was a child and she always blamed herself for this. Their dad is in very poor health after having a stroke, so she stepped her search up a notch.

She saw an advert for contestants for a new game show and immediately entered hoping this could be massive publicity in her search for Hannah if she got selected. She attended a local audition where she was surprised to see Lewis, one of her neighbours.

There were some funny scenes here meeting other potentials contestants. I really liked Oscar and his pug, Biggie Smalls.

And Jim with his amazing knowledge and his love for his grandchildren. A really great cast, the game show crew and contestants, even Professor Potts! Some of the madcap games made me laugh, especially the blindfolded driving course. A bit like ‘It’s a Knockout’ meets ‘Treasure Hunt’. In fact a real mix of all the best game shows, such fun.

The relationship between Bryony and her girlfriends was lovely too.

It’s a change for me to step away from crime novels and chick-lit and have a good laugh out loud story. Very funny and entertaining, easy to read and relatable too.

All my reviews are quite short and concise as I’m here to show off the book rather than my own writing ability.

Thanks to Carol Wyer and Canelo for the review copy in which I give my honest opinion.

The Cottage on Sunshine Beach by Holly Martin @HollyMAuthor @bookouture #bookreview #backablogger #TheCottageOnSunshineBeach

The Cottage on Sunshine Beach cover 2

Description

The stunning new summer story from the bestselling author of Summer at Buttercup Beach. Step into the delightful seaside village of Sandcastle Bay, where you’ll discover golden sand, welcoming smiles and an unforgettable romance…

Melody Rosewood loves her new home in idyllic Sandcastle Bay. The beautiful little cottage on the edge of Sunshine Beach, with its bright yellow door and view of the sea has captured her heart. And she loves being close by to her family and best friend Tori Graham.

Life by the sea is pretty much perfect, there’s just one thing missing…

Gorgeous Jamie Jackson, with his cheeky grin and adorable puppy, works as a sculptor opposite Melody’s jewellery shop. From the moment he and Melody meet sparks fly. But despite their instant attraction, a past heartache is holding Jamie back.

As Melody starts to make a life for herself in the close-knit, quirky seaside community, she realises Jamie could be the one for her. But as the two of them take a chance on romance, it’s one dating disaster after another. Are they destined to always be just good friends?

Or will Melody finally find her happily-ever-after in Sandcastle Bay?

A perfect, feel-good summer read that will make you want to escape to the beach for a romantic day in the sun. If you enjoy reading Sarah Morgan, Jenny Oliver and Lucy Diamond this book is for you.

My Thoughts

Such a lovely, heartwarming book.

The publisher’s description of ‘An utterly gorgeous feel good romantic comedy’ is spot on….truly gorgeous.

This story has all you want and need in a modern romantic novel, it gets a bit steamy at times too!

The picture-perfect setting, a small English seaside town called Sandcastle Bay. I imagined I was there, and the beach was fantastic in my head.

Melody and Jamie are really drawn to each other, but are shy with each other. Things have gone wrong with past relationships so they are hesitant to get involved even though the air sparks between them. Melody and me share the clumsiness!

The story isn’t just about Melody and Jamie, but also and her friends and family, his family and some of the villagers. Aunt Agatha was making me chuckle again. Most of the cast were in ‘The Holiday Cottage by the Sea’ which I also adored. This can easily be read as a standalone though.

Loved the jewellery-making aspect and the sculptures. And not forgetting the little magician too.

I thoroughly recommend this book, a perfect light-hearted getaway.

Funny, touching, steamy. It ticks all the boxes for me.

Thanks to Holly Martin for another great book.

Take it with you on your summer holiday, or read it in the garden….escape to Sandcastle Bay in your imagination.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the review copy in which I give my honest opinion.

The Hunt by Monica James @monicajames81 #book review

The Hunt cover

Description

A Hard Love Romance Book 3, from international bestselling author Monica James.

My name is Hunter O’Shea and I have a confession to make…I’ve met a girl who consumes me. I know that makes me sound completely whipped, but Mary “Lamb” Mitts has the power to bring me to my knees…it’s just too bad she hates my guts. But that’s okay, because I hate hers, too. The fiery redhead stirs something in me that I can’t explain.

This temporary insanity could be due to the fact my best friend, who used to be a bigger player than me, is getting married. That must be it. I’m caught up in an Oprah moment.

The only solution is to get back in the game and forget she exists. That theory is great—too bad I don’t want anyone else.

I…just…want…her.

I’m so screwed.

My thoughts

I thoroughly recommend it, but definitely not for you if you are at all prudish!! Hunter is a total man-whore with a different woman every night. I think he’s taken Dix’s crown as the biggest player in town. I love his cursing and bad language, it makes me laugh out loud.

Hunter and Mary dislike each other immensely. They don’t even tolerate each other for the sake of their best friends, Dix and Madison, who are getting married.

Mary is doing a design degree and needs to remodel a home and office for her final assignment. She agrees to work on Hunters’s home and office. They are thrown together through this project and something stirs in both of them. This is rollercoaster of emotions for both Hunter and Mary.

Hunter has a great job in the city and there is a serious side-story running here.

Hunter’s buddies, Dixon and Finch were so funny with their banter. Some great put-downs from them, their softer side is also shown.

This book complements the first two in the series, Dirty Dix and Wicked Dix, in which Hunter is featured as a best friend of Dr Dixon Mathews. It could be read as a stand-alone though.

The author certainly doesn’t shy away from the sex scenes, of which there were lots!

Miss Wrong and Mr Right by Robert Bryndza #bookreview @RobertBryndza @bookouture

Description

‘This is men,’ said Gran. ‘When they vant you, but you don’t vant them, they stay. But let them know you vant them, they no longer need you, and they go! It’s like that movie, Nanny McPhee.’

Natalie Love has worked hard to have it all. She runs a successful London theatre that’s about to host one of Hollywood’s leading stars, Ryan Harrison. She’s pretty sure she’s found her man in yoga boyfriend Benjamin, despite his annoying habit of saying Namaste! every time he speaks. And her eccentric, glamorous Hungarian gran is always on hand to offer sage advice and steaming bowls of goulash.

Life in the bright lights of London has always been Natalie’s escape from her chaotic family in rural Devon and Jamie, the childhood sweetheart she left at the altar fifteen years ago. Until he turns up at her theatre door…

Jamie is in town producing a West End show and with rivalry suddenly clouding old feelings, this isn’t quite the reunion Natalie was expecting.

Will Benjamin prove to be Natalie’s perfect match? With Ryan turning her head, Natalie is more confused than ever. And what about Jamie – could he be her second chance at first love?

Charming, hilarious and totally unputdownable, Miss Wrong and Mr Right will put a huge smile on your face and keep you guessing who Natalie’s ‘Mr Right’ is until the very last page.

My Review – 5 stars

Robert Bryndza has the ability to hook me in straight away with his crime stories.

I was interested to see how this one was, being a different genre….and OMG I flipping loved it. It had me laughing out loud and chuckling away on my lunchbreak.

I adore chick-lit and it’s my favourite genre really, but the added hilariousness of this gave it that bit extra for me.

Natalie’s Gran, Anouska, was my favourite character. Her accent spelled out on the page cracked me up. I loved her comments, I can’t imagine having such a liberated Gran.

All the characters were great, from the theatre gang, to the family back in Devon.

Give this book a try, you won’t be disappointed.

A witty romantic read perfect for fans of Carole Matthews and Debbie Johnson.

My Review –  4.5 stars

Such a good, fun read!

Mostly light-hearted with some seriousness thrown in.

Some great characters. I felt I got to know them all very well.

And even though I have a bird phobia I loved Burt.

I did try some of the belly dancing moves in front of the mirror…..who knew my stomach could move in such a way!!

Some parts made me laugh out loud.

I welled up at one point, but the author cleverly made me laugh before I actually shed a tear.

I really enjoyed the book, nice and easy to read.

If you usually read crime give this author a try, it’s a welcome change.
