My Thoughts

It gripped me right from the off with a prologue that totally stunned me.

A riveting, suspenseful, roller-coaster of a story that totally engrossed me. I loved it!

I really connected with this book as I live in Stoke-on-Trent and I know all the areas very well.

DI Kate Young still has the same issues following the death of her husband Chris, her vulnerability apparent as she takes to chatting to Chris again.

She has suspicions that people within the force may be corrupt. She definitely has trust issues, even with some of her colleagues. She is very determined in her bid to expose her superintendent, John Dickson, but she has to tread very carefully as she doesn’t know who to trust. She is extra careful who she asks questions of and who she shares with.  She also uses an unorthodox route which she needs keep to herself.

The discovery of the body of a young man at a train station was the start of a manic few days where unconnected people were killed in the same way. The lack of connection between the victims caused real anxiousness for the team as they had no idea who would be the next victim or where it would happen, only a rough time when the killing would occur.

In her team I really like Emma and Morgan. They have brilliant banter, are good friends and bounce off each other. They bring a profiler to the team, Samuel, who is a very interesting character and a little bit odd. He has some strange methods of getting inside the killer’s mind.

A heart-pounding story, perfectly paced and a fabulous addition to the DI Kate Young series.

Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and Carol Wyer for the early copy in which I give my honest opinion.

About the Book

DI Kate Young Book 3

Nobody can get into the mind of an erratic killer—except an unpredictable detective.

When a young man is found lying on a station platform with a hole in his head, DI Kate Young is called in to investigate the grisly murder. But the killing is no one-off. As bodies start to pile up, she is faced with what might be an impossible task—to hunt down a ruthless killer on a seemingly random rampage.

Meanwhile, Kate has her own demons to battle as she struggles to come to terms with her husband’s death. And she is hell-bent on exposing corruption within the force and bringing Superintendent John Dickson to justice. But with the trail of deception running deeper—and closer to home—than she could ever have imagined, she no longer knows who she can trust.

With her grip on reality slipping, Kate realises that maybe she and the killer are not so different after all. But time is running out and Kate is low on options. Can she catch the killer before she loses everything?

  1. Oh my days! Steph, you have blown me away with your review. I am hugging myself in delight at your kind words. Nothing makes me happier than when a book lover such as yourself enjoys one of my books and you have set me up for the rest of the day. There are some epic quotes in it that I shall definitely harvest and use if that’s okay with you.
I might even be nice to Mr Grumpy now when he moans incessantly about the weather and world events.
A sincere thank you for taking part in the tour and for sharing this wonderful review.
If you were here, I’d hug you! Watch out. The next time I drive through Stoke I might stop off and do exactly that! X
